How To Floss Properly

Maintaining proper oral hygiene is just as important as brushing your teeth. There are some places in your mouth where your trusty toothbrush just cannot reach. That’s why it’s important to floss at least once a day. Proper flossing removes food particles and plaque that’s usually hidden between your teeth and under your gum line. If you floss properly, it will helps to prevent plaque build-up that can lead to gum disease and tooth decay- it also helps to preserve the life of your teeth and gums. Everyone wants a healthy smile, especially those with braces. Here are simple instructions for effective flossing.

  1. Prepare the floss: All you need is about 30 cm’s of dental floss. Wrap floss around your index fingers and leave a four finger space between your hands.
  2. Floss Position: Hold the floss tightly between your thumbs and index fingers and gently slide it between teeth.
  3. How to Floss: Slowly move the floss up and down, gliding along the side of each tooth.
  4. Where to Floss: place the floss around the base of each tooth, making sure you dip beneath the gum line. Be careful; never force the floss or move it roughly. As you move from tooth-to-tooth, use clean sections of floss. Continue flossing until you’ve cleaned between all of your teeth, then rinse with OraSalts mouth wash or water and smile!
  5. Braces: If you have braces, there’s a special orthodontic floss that’s quite stiffer and can be threaded under wires. OraFloss is perfect – and is impregnated with Sea Salt.
